Central Technical Library at the University of Ljubljana (CTK) invites female and male researchers to the professional workshop, which will take place on Thursday, 17 September 2026, from 9.30 am to 3.00 pm in the CTK conference room.
The workshop is designed to address current legal, copyright and ethical issues relating to the use of artificial intelligence in a research environment.
Participants will learn about:
- the challenges of copyright and open science,
- the use of research data and publications in AI tools,
- the responsible use of artificial intelligence in an academic setting,
- the protection of personal and confidential data and compliance with the GDPR,
- the ethical boundaries of the use of generative artificial intelligence in research.
The workshop will address current challenges, present practical examples and offer recommendations for the responsible, transparent and lawful use of artificial intelligence in research.

The workshop is organised by Central Technical Library at the University of Ljubljana with lecturers from the Faculty of Law at the University of Ljubljana.
Associate Professor Dr Matija Damjan
Associate Professor of Civil and Commercial Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Ljubljana; Director of the Institute for Comparative Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Ljubljana; and Secretary of the Editorial Board of the journal *Pravni letopis*. In his research and teaching, he focuses in particular on intellectual property law, information society law, and the legal challenges posed by information technology and artificial intelligence. Between 2020 and 2022, he was a member of the working group on data governance at the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI). He actively participates in domestic and international professional and academic events in the fields of copyright law, open science and the legal aspects of digital technologies.
Dr Katja Štemberger Brizani
Lecturer at the Department of Administrative Law, Faculty of Law, University of Ljubljana, and researcher at the Institute for Comparative Law, Faculty of Law, University of Ljubljana. In her teaching and research work, she focuses primarily on administrative law, public procurement, concessions and public-private partnerships. She actively participates in domestic and international professional and academic conferences, and has also lectured at universities abroad, including Masaryk University in Brno. She is the founder and coordinator of the Legal Clinic on Public Procurement, Concessions and Public-Private Partnerships. As the author and co-author of numerous academic papers, her research focuses primarily on issues relating to administrative contracts, concessions, legal protection and contemporary developments in administrative law.
Lucija Strojan, MA in Law
Research assistant at the Department of Civil Law, Faculty of Law, University of Ljubljana, and researcher at the Institute for Comparative Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Ljubljana. Her research focuses primarily on civil law, consumer protection law, information society law, and the legal aspects of artificial intelligence and digital regulation. She participates in several domestic and international research projects in the fields of open data, digital regulation and artificial intelligence. She actively participates in domestic and international academic conferences and publishes professional and academic articles in the fields of civil and digital law.
The event is being held under the auspices of Open libraries and is co-funded under the Open Science Action Plan for the implementation of ReZrIS Action 6.230.
