The library's resources are integrated into University of Ljubljana Digital Library, so its users can access the full range of information resources provided by other University of Ljubljana libraries in addition to the CTK. Through the Digital Library of the University of Ljubljana, users can access more than 100 different electronic information resources from one place, such as bibliographic databases, e-journal collections, e-book collections, e-glossary collections, patent collections and other types of databases covering various disciplines and fields of expertise.

The library's various electronic information resources are available to all users, subject, of course, to specific licensing conditions. In order to use the Internet services in the reading room, users must be members of the library in order to use the computers and terminals, with the exception of the terminals for using the library catalogue and the terminals in the entrance lobby. They can ask for assistance at the borrowing desk, where library staff will direct them to one of the computers dedicated to the use of electronic information resources.

Users coming from the University of Ljubljana can also access most of the electronic information resources outside the CTK premises. They can access information from the premises of the University of Ljubljana without any special authentication, but to access information from outside the premises of the University of Ljubljana, they must use the so-called remote access. For remote access, they use the COBISS password or the COBISS/My Library password, which they receive when registering at one of the University of Ljubljana libraries.

The usual entry point for using the electronic information resources of the CTK and the University of Ljubljana is the portal of the Digital Library of the University of Ljubljana, which offers a number of functional possibilities in addition to federated search.

To browse or search the titles of e-books and e-journals available to UL users, there is UL e-Library Catalogue, where you can search an up-to-date list of e-books, e-journals and some other types of full-text documents (e.g. standards, reports). The CTK information specialists have also produced List for the field of engineering, which can also serve as an entry point for the use of electronic information resources. In addition to the NAUTOS bibliographic database and the the SIST portal (access only via dedicated computers in the CTK), you can also use Catalogue of CTK Standards, which contains information about our library's standards collection.

Information and assistance on using CTK's electronic information resources can be obtained from the information desk or by telephone. For information on technical issues related to the DiKUL portal and remote access, please call 041 756 308 or write to us at dikul-help@ctk.uni-lj.si. For more information, please call 01 2003 431 or send an e-mail to info-center@ctk.uni-lj.si.

The use of electronic information resources is subject to the General Conditions of Use of Licensed Material:

Use of licensed material

Eligible users in universities are usually faculty members, postgraduate and undergraduate students and faculty staff. If a library provides access to library materials to the public, it may also provide access to and copying from licensed materials for study, research and personal purposes to other patrons, provided that they access the licensed materials in the library.

Access to licensed material includes retrieving, displaying, searching, downloading, printing and storing individual articles for academic research, educational and personal use. Copying and storage is limited to single copies of a moderate number of individual articles.

Copying and storing entire issues of journals is not allowed for authorised users. Use of a moderate amount of licensed material for the preparation of lectures and other materials for educational purposes is permitted.

Restrictions on the use of licensed material

Access to licensed material is restricted to authorised users only. The Licensed Material may not be adapted, modified, altered, translated, made into derivative works, or used in any way that would infringe copyright. Nor may you remove, obscure or alter any copyright or other notices that are part of the Licensed Material. Commercial use of the Licensed Material is not permitted.

Remote access to electronic information resources

Students and employees of the University of Ljubljana can access most of the subscription-based electronic information resources from CTK and NUK computers, as well as from computers located on the premises of the University of Ljubljana. Remote access is also possible. Remote access is provided by the National and University Libraries.

What is remote access?

Where a library provides its users with access to a variety of subscription-based electronic information resources, it is required by the terms of the licence agreements to ensure that only its users have access to the resources.

For access from the locations of the University of Ljubljana, CTK and NUK, most of the resources are accessed using IP authentication, i.e. access control to the subscribed electronic resources for all authorised users, only in rare cases using a username and password.

Remote access allows users to access resources from any location at any time. To authenticate, you need the library card number you are registered with and a valid password.

How to use remote access?

Remote access to the University of Ljubljana's electronic information resources is available to members of libraries that are included in the remote access authentication system, i.e. libraries of all UL academies and faculties, as well as CTK and NUK. The included libraries are listed in the drop-down list at remote access login pages. For information on the resources that can be accessed remotely by specific groups of eligible users of the UL, CTK and NUK libraries, see the description of each resource in the Catalogue of information resources at DiKUL or in the list of resources at NUK's Network (there is also a list for the field of engineering).

Click on the link to access the database you want to access. If the collection interface does not recognise your IP address (for example, because you are not accessing from UL library locations), it will direct you to the authentication system. As this is a secure login, your browser will usually warn you beforehand. When you continue, you will be taken to a login page where you select the library you are enrolled in, your membership (student) card number and your password. If the browser reports an error, e.g. it cannot find or display the page, then access is prevented by a firewall on your side. Click on the "Login" button. After a few moments, the previously selected electronic resource will open.

Password for remote access

Remote access is available to active (registered) members of the participating libraries. The password for remote access is the same as the password for viewing borrowed material or for electronic ordering via the COBISS Plus computer catalogue (COBISS My Library).

If you don't have your password yet, contact the CTK or the library of your faculty or department, where they will enter it in the records. If you are not yet registered at one of the libraries, request this password when you register at the library of your choice (enrolment in the CTC). You can start using the password as soon as you enter it.

Licensing restrictions

The password is for your personal use only and you must not disclose it to any other person. You are obliged to comply with the licensing terms of the providers or publishers of the information resources. The licensing terms are summarised in the Terms and Conditions of Use of Electronic Information Resources. Violators will be dealt with in accordance with the provisions of the Library's User Policy.

Information resources are for your personal use only; if your institution needs access to a resource, it must order it itself.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't some resources be used remotely at all? The licence agreement between the publisher or resource provider and the library must allow remote access for library users. Some publishers require an additional fee or do not allow remote access to resources at all. Libraries try to make remote access available for as many resources as possible within their financial means.

Why can't all members of all participating libraries access all resources? Libraries have licence agreements with providers, which specify, among other things, which UL members have access and which users can use remote access to the information resource. Thus, the maximum number of resources can be accessed (including remotely) by UL, CTK and NUK students and staff, regardless of whether they are enrolled in their home library, CTK or NUK. A limited, narrower set of resources can also be accessed by all other members of UL, CTK and NUK libraries who are not UL students or staff. However, some resources are only accessible from the locations of specific faculties or remotely only to students and staff enrolled in a specific faculty library (e.g. some specific resources for users of BF, EF, FDV, FF, FŠ, MF). If you are not eligible for access, the service will display a page with the message "Access denied due to licence conditions" after you log in. For detailed information on the licence conditions or access regime, please refer to the resource descriptions at the entry points to the electronic resources.

I am enrolled in several libraries at the University of Ljubljana, which library should I choose when applying? The widest choice of access to information resources is provided by the library of the faculty (or college or university) where you are studying or working. However, if you choose, for example, to log in with your NUK or CTK card number, the system will recognise you as a student or employee of the University of Ljubljana, but in this case you may not be able to access some specific information resources that are only available to users of certain faculties.

Are there any special settings needed on my computer? On most computers, you don't need to change anything. However, if you encounter problems, please check that your browser allows cookies and that your institution's, computer's or ISP's firewall allows access to ports ranging from 2048 to 2348 on our server (http://nukweb.nuk.uni-lj.si:2048 ... http://nukweb.nuk.uni-lj.si:2348). These settings should be corrected by you or your local network administrator.

CTK svojim uporabnikom omogoča dostop do bogate ponudbe knjižničnih informacijskih virov v elektronskem, večinoma spletnem, okolju.
