Tech Corner for young people

In an effort to foster early interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), we have set up the Youth Tech Corner to benefit young people (primary and early secondary school), their parents and the wider science and research community.

The establishment of the Youth Tech Corner at CTK is an important opportunity to stimulate early interest in science and technology.

The project leader is Sonja Zagorc Kontić and the project coordinator is Tilen Mandelj. Several employees from different departments are involved in the project.

The main objectives of the Youth Tech Corner include:

  • Promoting early interest in STEM. Provide access to books that address science, technology, engineering and science topics in a way that is relevant to young people.
  • Developing a reading culture. Fostering a love of reading and lifelong learning from an early age.
  • Strengthening communities and cooperation. To create a space for families to meet and connect within the university community.
  • Encouraging research, creativity and critical thinking. To offer books that stimulate children's imagination, creativity and analytical thinking.
  • Stimulating problem-solving skills. Learning engineering thinking from childhood.

Providing a bookshelf for future technicians, engineers and scientists can have many benefits:

  • Fostering early interest in science and technology. Access to appropriate books on technical and scientific topics can stimulate young people's interest in these areas from an early age.
  • Promoting a culture of reading. Young people who visit libraries and have access to books develop a love of reading, which can have a positive impact on their academic performance.
  • Education through play. Books aimed at young people often include elements of play and learning, which can help develop cognitive skills and critical thinking.
  • Strengthening communities and linking generations. A tech corner for young people can become a place for families to meet and socialise, which can foster a sense of community and togetherness. Grandparents, parents and children can explore and read books together, strengthening intergenerational bonds.
  • Access to quality literature. Offering quality books can ensure that children have access to content that is relevant and educational, which is especially important in the digital age.
  • Promoting lifelong learning. Young people who visit the library from an early age learn the value of lifelong learning and research, which can influence their future educational path.
  • Supporting interdisciplinary learning. Books for young people include themes from different fields (science, social studies, arts), promoting young people's holistic development and understanding of the world around them.
  • Stimulating creativity and imagination. Books often stimulate imagination and creativity, which is important for young people to develop innovative and critical thinking.
