Eduroam and Libroam wireless networks

Two wireless internet access networks - Eduroam and Libroam - are available to users in the CTK premises, providing secure, simple and free wireless internet access. They are similar in many ways, but differ in some important ways:

Eduroam

Eduroam is an international academic wireless network that provides students and staff at universities and other educational and research organisations with wireless access at their home organisations, as well as roaming access at all Eduroam member institutions.

Who can use Eduroam?

All students from UL, other universities and colleges, and other academic institutions from all over Europe (including some secondary school students) who have Eduroam in their home.

Who gives out Eduroam passwords?

Passwords are awarded by the parent educational organisation (faculty, secondary school) to students, pupils and employees of these organisations.
A list of organisations currently involved in Eduroam in Slovenia can be found at https://aai.arnes.si/eduroam.

Where can Eduroam users still use the network?

Eduroam users can use Eduroam in all organisations (faculties, schools, institutes) that are members of the Eduroam network in Slovenia and throughout Europe.
Note: Students and other members in CTK cannot get an Eduroam password, they get one from their organisation!

What technical support do we offer for Eduroam?

Technical assistance is only provided in exceptional cases where the user's problem is related to our network. Note: According to the Eduroam and Libroam network rules, the organisation that issued the username and password is responsible for user assistance.

Libroam

Libroam is a Slovenian wireless network that allows members of general libraries, but also some other libraries, to have wireless access in their home libraries, as well as roaming in all Slovenian libraries that are members of the Libroam network.

Who can use Libroam?

Members of general libraries and some other libraries whose libraries offer Libroam on their premises.

Who awards Libroam passwords?

Passwords are generated automatically when a member logs in to the library.
The username for CTK members is: ctk.XXXXXXX@libroam.si (enter your 7-digit membership number instead of XXXXXXX),
and the password is the same as for My library.

Where can Libroam users still use the network?

All registered members can use LIBROAM in all libraries in the COBISS system that offer this service.

What technical support do we offer for Libroam?

We offer assistance with client and certificate installation to our members, but only exceptionally to members of other libraries if the user's problem is related to our network.Note: According to the Eduroam and Libroam network rules, the organisation that issued the username and password is responsible for user assistance.

Accommodation

There are two installation methods.

1.mode:

With the app GetEduroam, which can be obtained at: https://www.geteduroam.app/ . For instructions, see the Arnes website. https://podpora.arnes.si/eduroam/. To install eduroam, select the University of Ljubljana in the application and then the Central Technical Library of the University of Ljubljana. To install Libroam, select the Izum organisation and then Libroam network.

2.mode:

Eduroam and Libroam are secured networks, which means that the login process and all other traffic are encrypted and verified by certificates. To access such a protected network, you need to install a special client before using it, and your wireless network card must support the WPA security protocol and TKIP encryption (the best way to ensure this is to update the drivers for the card).

The easiest way to install the client is from the website https://cat.eduroam.org/

You can also use a special wireless network specifically designed for accessing servers with installation files and instructions to install the client from this website on a host computer.

You do not need any client to connect to this network - select ctk_servis from the available networks and enter the password: ctkservis.

Note: only laptops can install the client over this network (only access to the clients and instructions is allowed, other websites are blocked). To install on mobile phones you need a data connection or you need to install the client on another open wireless network (in this case please call our technical support).

Installation and configuration for Eduroam and Libroam is done in the same way. For more detailed instructions, see http://www.arnes.si/pomoc-uporabnikom/eduroam/navodila-za-povezavo.html, but there are differences in the installation:

  • Eduroam:
In the list of organisations, select your organisation (the one that gave you your Eduroam username and password).
  • Libroam:
In the list of organisations, select IZUM (the fastest way is to type the name in the search box of the list of organisations) and then select the Libroam user group.

If your organisation is not listed or the installation has failed, you can try to install the client manually by following the instructions in the link above.

Alternatively, on some operating systems you can use the built-in 802.1x client, where you only need to manually install the certificate. You must save the certificate in the "Trusted Root Certificate Authorities" folder.!:

Our IT team will help you install and configure the Libroam client.

Users must comply with the applicable legislation, the rules of use of the Arnes Academic Network, the rules of their home institution and the terms and conditions of use of the Internet and CTK electronic resources.

If your wireless network is not working, please inform our technical service on (01) 200 34 44 or by email to help-desk@ctk.uni-lj.si.
