Open Library organised by Advanced Science Communication Seminar (Artificial Intelligence for Science Communication and Science in Podcasts), which will take place 22 October 2025 from 9:00 to 15:00 on the premises conference rooms CTK, Trg republike 3, 1000 Ljubljana.
The seminar aims to enhance science communication skills - from critical evaluation and synthesis of knowledge to clear presentation of scientific methodology and research results. The seminar will focus on the use of artificial intelligence and the creation of podcasts for science communication purposes. It will consist of a theoretical part with lectures and a practical workshop.
It is aimed at all researchersThe aim is to empower participants to use AI effectively in communicating science and communicating knowledge in their research field to the wider public in a clear, engaging and understandable way, both in written, audio and video formats.
The seminar is led by experienced communicator and science communicator, Dr. Sašo Dolenc and Dr. Zarja Muršič.
In the theoretical part of the seminar, we will explain the basic concepts of using AI in science communication: an overview of AI tools for science communication (ChatGPT, Claude, DALL-E, Midjourney...), ethical aspects of using AI in science, 'prompting' techniques for science content, accuracy checking of AI-generated content, and the future of AI in knowledge dissemination.
We will also present good practices in science communication through podcasts and science podcast formats (interview, narrative, panel, etc.), basic recording techniques (microphones, environment), episode structures, interviewing techniques, basic audio editing (tool recommendations), and podcast distribution and promotion.
The practical part of the seminar will give participants the opportunity to put their knowledge into practice. Using the AI tool, participants will draft a popular summary of their research, generate a visual concept for their topic and critically evaluate the results. They will develop a plan for a podcast about their research area. Participants will work in groups to conceptualise a podcast series (target audience, format, topics), write a short script for the introduction and develop a production plan for the first episode.
At the end of the seminar, we will summarise the knowledge and experience gained and discuss the next steps to develop competences in science communication.
The one-day seminar will last a total of six school hours and will include a lunch break for relaxed networking and exchange of ideas among participants. Each participant will receive a certificate of attendance.
Places are limited. The seminar is free of charge. Register for the seminar via application form.

Programme:
9.00-10.30: Lecture - Introduction to using AI for science communication
We will present the use of AI in science communication. We will review AI tools for communication.
10:30-11:15: Workshop 1, Part 1 - Co-piloting with AI to produce a lay summary of your research work
Using the AI tool, participants will draft a popular summary of their research or recent research in their field and generate a visual concept for their topic.
11.15-11.45: Break and networking
11.45-12.30: Workshop 1, Part 2 - Co-piloting with AI to produce a lay summary of your research work
We will present the products and critically evaluate them, together with the use of AI in science communication.
12.30-13.15: Lecture - Science in Sound
We will introduce podcasting in science.
13.15-13.45: Lunch and networking
13.45-14.30: Workshop 2 - Developing a concept for a series of science podcasts
Participants will work in groups to develop a concept for a science podcast series.
