From 10.11.2025 onwards limitation of voucher spending by institution for open access publications in Springer Nature hybrid journals in 2025 no longer applies.
All vouchers not yet used this year - currently 21 - are available to authors from 10 November 2025 until stocks run out. ALL of the participating consortium institutions the principle: whoever needs the voucher, uses it. An overview of voucher spending is here (Overview - vouchers tab).
Please note: In rare cases, an author may submit a paper this year, the paper will be accepted (status ‘accepted’), but during the process the vouchers for 2025 will run out and the admin of the author's institution will no longer be able to approve the paper. From the moment the unused vouchers for 2025 run out, Open Access publications will be chargeable.
From 2026 onwards, there will be no more restrictions on how vouchers can be spent per institution! An unlimited number of vouchers will be available.
