The prices for each individual institution within the consortium (service) are set by the publishing house that owns the service. They set the price according to the size of the institution (often according to the number of staff + students enrolled, although the number of actual potential users is much lower), the number of teaching staff, the number of hospital rooms, and often do not even explain how they arrived at the price. As a rule, the amounts involved are relatively high.
Indicative full amounts requested by individual publishers for smaller institutions:
| Science Direct | EUR 18.000 - 40.000 |
| SpringerLink | EUR 12,000 - 20,000 |
| Nature Journals (NPG Journals) | EUR 12,000 - 20,000 |
| Wiley Online Library | EUR 18.000 - 25.000 |
| ACS All Society Package | EUR 25.000 - 35.000 |
| IEEE/IET Electronic Library | EUR 40,000 - 60,000 |
| JSTOR archive collections | EUR 13.000 - 15.000 |
| RSC Gold | EUR 25.000 - 30.000 |
Prices depend on the volume of content (e.g. the entire collection or just individual content collections), including the USD exchange rate, the size of the institution, etc. They may also vary significantly from the indicative amounts above.
